Online Training on Autism Spectrum Disorders

The link above is described as:

A first-of-its-kind internet web channel dedicated to autism and other neurological disorders. Childnett.tv is an internet access web channel that broadcasts interactive programming 24/7 via the internet. Our lineup includes streaming video related to autism and other neurological disorders

I watched only 1 of the bradcasts and it seemed very imformative.

That sounds pretty cool. Do you have to pay for access?

My 6 year old nephew is being tested for "non-verbal learning disorder"...he was born with extreemly low vision (will be "leagally blind") and is having a rough time adjusting to first grade. Trying to figure out where to start researching this to help my overwhelmed sister cope. The kid seems to have no empathy. Any suggestions?

It's free to access that website.

I would recommend this book:

Learning Disabilities, A to Z : A Parent's Complete Guide to Learning Disabilities from Preschool to Adulthood by Corinne Smith & Lisa Strick

Here is a link to it on half.com

I own this book and it is very comprehensive and does NOT speak over the heads of parents. It also gives good advice about how to work with the schools & advocate for your child.

It does not good into too much on every disorder, but enough and is pretty inclusive of all learning disorders. I think this would be a very good starting point as they are just begining to do testing.
